The trek’s major highlights are the ancient mid-western salt route settlement of Manang, Thorong –La pass between Nepal and Tibet, Muktinath Temple and the deepest Gorge of world Kali Gandaki. Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek - Ghandruk is one of the most popular Treks among all of the Trekking Routes in the whole of Nepal as well. Outline Itinerary

-Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1350m)
On arrival in the International Airport in Kathmandu you will be picked up and transferd to the hotel by our office representative. After refreshment in the hotel you will be picked by tour guide for your half day guided sightseeing tour to Kathmandu Durbar Square (place of the living goddess of Nepal). and then back to hotel, after short rest in the hotel you will ready for cultural dinner. Stay overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.

-Day 02: Full day in Kathmandu with city tours

Today you have full day guided sightseeing tour to the Buddhist and Hindu religious sights in Kathmandu, probably to Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swyambhunath; combination Hinduism and Buddhism known as monkey temple as there are many holy monkey living in the north-west part of the temple. Pashupatinath a sacred Hindu temple situated on the bank of the Bagmati River. Then drive to Buddhanath stupa one of the biggest and oldest stupa in the world. Later in the afternoon there will be a pre-trip meeting with your trekking guide in hotel. Our office representative will brief you regarding our trek as well as provides you opportunity to ask any question of upcoming trip with guide. And sty over night in Kathmandu.

-Day 03: Kathmandu-Pokhara (820m) about 7 hrs drive

Today an early morning your guide will come to pick you up and transfer to the tourist bus station for your day drive to lakeside city of Pikhara through the scenic countryside. On arrival in Pokhara bus station our hotel representative of Pokhara will pick you up and transfer to the hotel. After refreshment in the hotel your guide will take you to the walking tours around the lake. Stay over night at the hotel in Pokhara.
Note:  You can fly to Pokhara which takes 35min

-Day 04: Pokhara - Nayapul - Tirkhedhunga (1570m) about 2 hrs drives and 3-4 hrs walks

Trekking start day, in the morning after breakfast you will go on drive with your guide and porters on the well road of approximately 45 km. While driving you will pass some village with great scenery form Naudanda, Kanre, and Lumle all the way to Nayapul. On arrived at Nayapul, where our adventure begins from the warm sub tropical region, walk follows the Modi River upstream to Birethanti & follows the east bank of Bhurungdi Khola with scenery of waterfall, high green forest. Lunch will be served some where on the way at the teahouses and finally reaches to Tikhedhunga. Stay over night at the teahouses.

-Day 05: Tikhedhunga-Ulleri-Ghorepani (2780m) 5-6 hrs walks

After your first mountain wonderful breakfast in the same teahouse you stay, the route go steeply up with stones peeped step to reach Ulleri. From Ulleri you can have a view of Annapurna Himal and beautiful greenery terraces. After few hours of long hard climb with several breaks in between reaching at Ulleri village, from here the path is gradual on the winding trail through the cool shade of pine and rhododendron forest, the walk continues with few short ups and downs to the Ghorepani, from where you will be able to see good view of Annapurna Mountain range. Overnight Stay at Tea houses.

Day 06: Trek to Ghorepani-Tadapani (2660m) 4-5 hrs walks

Today at early morning before the sunrise you will be wake up by your guide to take you to the marvelous viewpoint of the trip i.e. Poon hill. It will take about 45 minute ascend walk to reach Poon hill to have a beautiful views of mountain with sunrise. Poon hill is derived as a hill from the ethnical group called as Poon, residents of Ghorepani and around area. Poon Hill is a great place to see the tantalizing view of stunning mountains from west Dhaulagiri, Annapurna ranges and an unique mountain Mt. Fishtail following the tantalizing view of  Manaslu to Ganesh Himal to the east ranges of mountains. Poon hill is such a spot which shows the wide range of high mountains from west to east about 650 km spreaded with the morning cool sunrise. As you have a great time here return to Ghorepani for breakfast. After breakfast you will continues trek to Tadapani, The walk pass through the rhododendron, Pine and bamboo frost with short up and down. Lunch will serve on the way at the teahouses. Stay overnight at the teahouses.

Day 07: Tadapani - Ghandruk (1990m) 3-4 hrs walk

Today’s walk leads through deep forest an hours on the gradual path to Bhasi Kharka, from this spot the trail descends with occasional view of the Mt.Annapurna ranges & Machhapuchre (Fishtail), through the forest, creeks and small streams to the Ghandruk village. This is a semi-modern village and gateway to Annapurna Sanctuary. On reaching Ghandruk at lunch time and as well for the night stop with enough time to explore the village and Gurung culture. This is one of the biggest towns of this trek.

-Day 08: Ghandruck - Pokhara

After great time in the Ghandruck Village today you descending Pokhara via Birethanti one can see mules loaded with goods en-route. Walking distance is 05 hrs to Nayapool (New-bridge) from where you are going to finish you trek and drive back to Pokhara. Stay over night at the hotel.

-Day 09: Flight from Pokhara-Kathmandu

Well, after wonderful time in the Nepal Himalaya and short rest in Pokhara, today you have short and secnic flight back to Kathmandu. After breakfast according to flight time we will take you from hotel to Pokhara airport. On arrival in Kathmandu Airport you will meet our office representative with your name card and transfer to the hotel, rest and relax afternoon. Stay overnight at the hotel.

-Day 10: Fly back to home/ Next destination BB

Accommodations we provide:
We provide all accommodations in local tea house lodges on twin sharing basis.  You will have standard tea houses/lodges/hotels in mountain which are common rooms with sharing washing and bathroom.  The lodges we choose is on standard of service and good location.  During the trip in Nepal, we will provide 2 nights hotel in Kathmandu.(standard Tourist Hotel)  and 2 Night hotel in Pokhara. And during your trekking,  If you would like to have private single room, then you can request by paying single supplement.

-Where is Ghorepani Poon Hill located?

Ghorepani is a village and Poonhill is a hill which are the section of north central Nepal hills. The entire massif and surrounding area are protected Annapurna Conservation Area Project.

-What essential documents do I need to bring with me on Ghorepani-Poon Hill Trek?

Valid passport  – must be valid for up to 6 months after you return from your tour, keep a separate photocopy with Nepal visa.

-Can you provide me more information about the teahouses on Ghorepani-Poon Hill trek?

According to the location the tea houses vary on their quality and style on this trek. Basically they have communal room downstairs with one or two bed bedroom above them. You have to use share toilet but nowadays in low levels atteched toilet is found and some have hot shower facilities but some will have stand pipes. Tea houses use a type of burning stove in main communal area and other room are unheated. Tea houses donot have money exchange facilities. Trekking Planner recommend you to exchange cash in Kathmandu or Pokhara as you like.
At the lower altitudes there is electricity facilities whereas as we go higher tea houses become more basic. As cooler temperature drain battery life, ensure your batteries last a little longer by putting it inside pocket of your coat or under your pillow.

-How fit do I have to be for Ghorepani-Poon Hill Trekking?

Ghorepani Poonhill trek is consider as easy but trekking in Himalaya means uphill and downhill walking in remote part. You must be healthy and fit to make your mind you can trek minimum 4-5 hours.

-How many guides and porters will be there in our group?

A group will have a group leader or a guide who will lead you on the trek. Porters will be there to carry your baggage packs and all the camping gear. One porter will carry two trekkers baggages. A number of supporting staff will depend upon your group size.

-At one time how many liter of water I have to carry in Ghorepani-Poon Hill Trek?

Mostly 3-4 liters is sufficient. You will be able to refill bottels at lunch time. When you are in high altitude you have to drink more water to get rid of altitude diseases.

-Is it nessary to carry Trekking poles?

Yes, Trekking Poles make you easy to walk in the rough ways. Trekking poles makes your body and leg to move more safely. So, we suggest you to use it.

-Is bottled water available everywhere in Ghorepani-Poon Hill Trekking?

Mainly tea houses on the way have stores which sells bottled water and other supplies that may be needed for you on the trek. There is no any plastic recycleable facilities in Nepal, we encourage you to bring chlorine tablets and use filter water in the teahouses.

-Should I have to bring iodine tablets for purifying the water?

You have to bring iodine tablet with you.  Chlorine tablets are widely available. The most effective and commonly used version of chlorine is chlorine dioxide, which is tasteless and odourless. Tablets can be bought cheaply and usually 1 tablet is sufficient to purify 1 litre of water. Neutralising tablets can also be bought to get rid of the smell and taste of chlorine or iodine. This will need to be done for water obtained using hand pumps or streams in the trek.

-What are the effects of going so high?

Altitude produces physical changes in the body. Higher you go, more pronounced those changes. If after gaining a lot of elevation in a hurry, you experience dizziness, nausea, headaches, and dehydration, you are probably suffering from altitude sickness. In rare cases this may worsen, so a close watch is kept on all trekkers by the Group Leader who is trained to recognise Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). If trekkers shows any signs of AMS they will be evacuated to a lower, safe altitude immediately. To minimise effects of altitude you ascend slowly which allows safe acclimatisation.

-What if I get ill while on Ghorepani-Poon Hill Trekking?

It depends on the nature of your illness. If you suddenly feels dizzy or weak, you have to sit or lie down. If you still feel sick, keep a warm and quiet until you can get medical help. You will carried down if no progress we advise travellers to take a personal kit too.
 In serious cases, you need helicopter rescue. Our guide will suggest you to use it if its ver serious. So, helicopter rescue insurance is necessary for every trekkers before you come to trek in this trek.

-Would you recommend to take a Down Jacket?

The weather is changeable in the Himalaya so you can expect to experience four seasons in one day. Make sure you have plenty of warm layers which you can shed or add as required. While even in winter it can be as warm as 19C during the day, the higher the altitude, the colder the temperature and when high up the temperature drops significantly at night to around -10C in October/November, and to around -20C from December to February.

-Is alcohol permitted on Ghorepani-Poon Hill Trekking?

Alcohol is consumed in Nepal. You can buy it in tea houses in the trek. Local alcohol is also available. However we suggest you not to drink alcohol at high altitude.

-What kind of weather can we expect during Ghorepani-Poon Hill Trekking?

Mountains weather is difficult to predict. Although at night it is generally cooler and the days are warm. Winter (January and February) will be colder but the days can be warm if the sun is out. There will be bit of snow during the month of January, February and December. It is also important to make sure that you can stay warm and dry in just about any conditions.

Useful information about trip:


1.Difficulties rating of Ghorepani-Poonhill Trek

A trekker or walker who is able to hike normally 5-6 hours per day carrying a light weight backpack will be very fit enough to do this trekking. There are stone step up and down which are very uneven and due to some long descents your leg may feel shaky so we recommend to use walking poles to feel safer. Normally, 3200m is the highest point of the trek, its normal and no need to feel altitude related risk.

2.Safe drinking water on Ghorepani-Poonhill Trek

Basically, we can get mineral water bottles in some places but in some places we cannot find it. In that case we suggest you to drink boiled water which may charge small fee, found tea houses and better to bring chlorine tablets to purify water. Due to no provision of plastic bottles better to use boiled rather than mineral water, helpful for protection of environment.
Recharging Batteries of Electronic Items on Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek
Hydro electricity or solar power sources are used to charge your electrical items like camera, batteries, iPod, iPhone etc. Tea houses or lodges may charge small fee per hours for charging facilities. Better to buy adaptors before the trip since plugs are limited. In Nepal 220-240 volt power is used and sockets fit round and flat plugs.

3.Extra Advice for Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek

You may see some beautiful and sweet children and you may want to distribute balloons, chocolates, money and pens as many trekkers has felt same. But better not to do so because it encourages them to beg and ask to every trekker.
In the trekking, keep your valuables safe. Do not left anything anywhere. Ensure that you lock your door when you leave your room and do not hang any things outside at night.


4.Garbage Disposal

Use a dustbins and do not throw anything into the fire. Carry garbage in the way where dustbin facilities are not available and conserve the environment.
Spending Money per Day
It mainly depends upon spending habits, normally you should allocate US$ 9-12 per meal in Kathmandu and Pokhara. On trekking, US$ 10-14 a day is good enough to buy drinks and chocolates.

5.Travel Insurance for Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek

Trekking in Nepal is mainly in remote area. You should be sufficiently protected and need to have travel insurance that covers emergency evacuation, lost items, liabilities, injuries and medical treatment. 6.Sharing and Toilet facilities for Ghorepani Poonhill Trek

All the guest houses offer hot showers, which can be in bathroom or can be a bucket of hot water. Please note that at high altitude there may not be enough hot water for all the trekkers. Limit the use of hot water unless the water is solar heated or firewood for the ecological reason. Every lodge has some kind of washing facilities but you must carry a bar of soap. If the water froze then ask your guide to get warm bowl of water. Toilet is mainly Asian squat style. Basically toilet is outside your room and varies in how clean they are. You should not through toilet paper in the toilet hole rather you should use rubbish bin that is kept inside the toilet.


7.Tea Houses

On this trekking route local people have built tea houses lodge with food and beverage facilities. A simple room usually has two narrow beds. While staying in the tea houses you will see the charming local people with their good hospitality services.
